Using the Learner Profile

Caring, Principled and Communicators:
Remember this is new for all of us. Be patient with yourself and others. Be encouraging, supportive, and forgiving of mistakes.  Know that we are in this situation together and that we will need to work together as a team to be successful.

Inquirers, Thinkers and Knowledgeable:
This will be a time for us to try out different things and learn in new exciting ways. It is a great chance to ask questions and let your curiosity guide you. We can all become independent learners and explore areas that we are interested in. Be curious, wonder, try, test, and most of all have fun and enjoy your learning!

Balanced and Open-minded:
Know that we all need to take care of our hearts, bodies, and minds during this time. Rest, play, exercise, talk about your feelings, and respect the feelings of others. Be understanding that we will deal with this new experience differently and try to understand the point of view of others.

Risk-takers and Reflective:
Let’s face this situation with enthusiasm and confidence. We can use this chance to think about how we learn and know what we have done well. We can also learn from our mistakes and use them to do things better.

Overview – Brockton eLearning

Parents play a significant role in their child’s education and the co-operation between your family and Brockton School is an important two-way process. We are looking forward to formulating a positive and effective partnership at this time.

eLearning at Brockton is designed to provide continuity and to ensure continued progress toward established learning targets for all of our students. In keeping with Brockton’s commitment to inspiring outstanding humans, eLearning experiences are being developed to be robust and meaningful.

Organization and Structure of Virtual Learning

Junior School students will be offered engaging eLearning Units of Inquiry, including connections to reading, writing, math, and specialist classes! What is most important to our Junior School staff is that children and families are healthy, and that teacher student connection can be consistently facilitated. There will be daily connections, read alouds, and Google Hangout chats to support these connections between teachers, students, and between classmates. Additionally, parents will have an opportunity to speak personally with the classroom teacher, via a phone call or a Google Hangout meeting, once per week. Through these conversations, the teacher can offer feedback on schoolwork, formulate student goals, and foster connection. If at any time, you feel like the workload is not supporting your child’s learning, please contact your child’s teacher so that parent and teacher can problem-solve together. There will be no additional homework assigned throughout the eLearning course of study.

eLearning expectations, for the Junior School, will be presented through daily and weekly breakdowns of tasks using an eLearning platform called CANVAS. Ideally, students will be presented with clear expectations related to completing assigned tasks with attached due dates; student work will then be uploaded to CANVAS upon completion. When children are able to share their work with their teachers, it allows the teachers the opportunity to provide essential and supportive feedback. Specific details about access to CANVAS will be shared shortly with families. Stay tuned.

Each week, teachers will send a breakdown of each school day. This will allow parents to have a solid understanding of what will be happening each week.

The Brockton Student Services team is here to support you, your children, and the teachers at Brockton. We will continue to work collaboratively with our teachers, to ensure students are supported in their online learning experience. We will also continue to connect directly with students who have Individual Education Plans. In addition to this personal support, you will find an online learning portal for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 in CANVAS, which contains resources for social-emotional learning and support for social skills development. These may include videos, podcasts, and/or activities which can be completed as a family.
