Junior School Director & PYP Coordinator (on leave)
Ms Carrigan is a passionate teacher whose goal is to inspire students to be curious and critical thinkers, to face challenges and take action, and to act with compassion and integrity. She is a graduate from Trent University (Ontario) and Griffith University (Australia) where she gained her Masters of Primary Teaching. She is a qualified Montessori teacher and IB Academy teacher. Teaching in Thailand, Mexico, Australia and Ontario has offered her opportunities to learn about several cultures and approaches to learning.

Early Learning Years Coordinator & Kindergarten
Ms. Richards is excited to begin her second year at Brockton School as the Kindergarten Teacher. She earned an Honours Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University, in Kingston Ontario.
She is also a Certified Family Coach, who has worked closely with parents as a parenting mentor, and is a mother of 3 teenagers. Ms. Richards believes that Kindergarten should be a magical year in a child’s life.
|Junior Kindergarten||Jessica Silberg
Mrs. Silberg is thrilled to be teaching Brockton School’s first class of Junior Kindergarten students! Originally from Ottawa, Mrs. Silberg moved westward in 2012 and is happy to now call North Vancouver her home. She earned a Bachelor of Education from Nippising University, and completed an B.A. (honours) in Child Studies at Carleton University. Mrs. Silberg is also certified in Early Childhood Education and has completed Special Education training in Ontario. Over the past 11 years, Mrs. Silberg has taught in private schools, public schools, daycares, as well as provided individualized educational support to students with special needs. She strives to provide a safe and encouraging classroom that allows students to reach their full potential. Her hope is to inspire students with a love for learning by engaging them in inquisitive thinking, and integrating their individual interests and abilities into the class lessons. Mrs. Silberg is looking forward to continuing to build positive relationships with colleagues, students, and their families at Brockton School.
|Junior Kindergarten||Christina Miller
Mrs. Miller is one of our Junior Kindergarten teachers and is so excited to be a part of the very first JK class! Mrs. Miller studied in Queensland, Australia and graduated with her BA in English Literature from Griffith University (QLD). She then returned home for a Post Baccalaureate in Education at Vancouver Island University (Nanaimo). Mrs. Miller graduated with her BEd after several practicums, one being at an international private school in Bangkok, Thailand. After graduation she was hired at an IB school in Vancouver, St. John's School, where she worked as an intern and a grade 1 teacher. IB trained, she has always known that the PYP programme is the best programme for her teaching style. Mrs. Miller loves to teach hands-on lessons and help foster curiosity by guiding students through their own personalized learning/journey. She looks forward to teaching JK in a play-based environment and creating lots of opportunities for exploration and discovery. Mrs. Miller hopes to take her education further to learn more about young learners by enrolling in ECE courses each year and taking the PYP Early Years category 2 and 3 workshops through IBO. She love to be outdoors (rain or shine) and, in her free time, she loves to hike, camp, rock-climb, play squash and garden. Mrs. Miller is thrilled to be a part of the Brockton family!
Ceilidh has been working within the independent school system since graduating with her Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia in 2012. She also has an undergraduate degree in sociology from UBC. She has experience teaching both Junior and Senior Kindergarten, and is enrolled to begin a Masters Program in September specializing in Early Childhood Education. Ceilidh strives to cultivate a safe and inclusive learning environment for her students that emphasizes critical-thinking and inquiry-based teaching practices. She has completed her associate level Orton-Gillingham training course to ensure she is well-equipped to aid students struggling with language acquisition within the classroom. Ceilidh is sensitive to the individual needs and experiences of her students and their families, and has cultivated positive relationships with her colleagues in previous roles. She is looking forward to joining the team at Brockton for the 2016-2017 school year and to becoming an active member of the school community.
|Grade 1 & Junior Literacy Coordinator||Lauren Vanderham
Grade 1 & Junior Literacy Coordinator
Mrs. Vanderham graduated from the University of Victoria with an Honours Degree in Primary Education. Her passion for teaching reading and writing motivated her to obtain her Orton Gillingham training for students with Dyslexia and other language-based differences. She also has a certificate in Language and Literacy from the University of British Columbia. Mrs. Vanderham has taught abroad in both India and Guatemala. She embraces diversity in the classroom with regards to culture, learning style and ability level.

Grade 1 (part-time)
Fraser is excited to start his first year at Brockton working with the grade one class. Fraser is passionate about inquiry and developing the whole child - mentally, socially and physically. He recently graduated from the University of British Columbia in their third ever IB Elementary cohort, and then taught at another independent school in Vancouver. Fraser is originally from New Zealand, but now calls Canada home after spending 6 years here. Fraser can either be found at the beach or on the cricket field during summer, and up on the slopes at Whistler in winter. Needless to say, Fraser will be keeping his class active during the day!
|Grade 2||Clara Kee
Clara is a dedicated and passionate elementary school educator who possesses a Masters of Education degree (with a specialization in English Language Studies) and has 8 years of teaching experience in independent and public school settings, both locally and internationally. As a teacher of IB in her most recent position and an International Primary Years Coordinator, Clara embraces the inquiry-model of teaching/learning and strives towards providing a positive, personalized, and differentiated environment wherein students are encouraged to think critically and within a global context. Clara comes to us with outstanding references from administrators, colleagues, parents, and students alike. Clara has many strengths and interests, including music, and will no doubt add much to Brockton both in and out of the classroom!
|Grade 3||Natalie Smyl
Ms. Smyl grew up on the North Shore and graduated with her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Victoria. In her years after graduating, Ms. Smyl has worked in several private IB Schools, including overseas in Hong Kong and locally at Mulgrave School. With a passion for teaching and working with children, Ms. Smyl looks forward to coming into work every day and being part of the exciting learning process with her students.

|Coordinator - Education Technology||Patrick Macmaster
Coordinator - Education Technology
Mr. Macmaster is an engaging and experienced teacher who has taught technology for the past ten years. He moved to BC in 2011 after teaching in Ontario and abroad at a Canadian International school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mr. Macmaster is a graduate of the Radio and Television Arts program from Ryerson University and received his Bachelor of Education from Brock University. His enthusiasm for technology is evident in the projects students produce and he enjoys seeing creativity come to life in the classroom.
|Grade 4||Carla Dawson
Ms. Dawson grew up in Golden, BC and holds Bachelor of Kinesiology and Bachelor of Education degrees. She has spent her entire career at independent IB schools in Vancouver as a physical education specialist and classroom teacher. She has IB training in MYP Physical Education, Theory of Knowledge, and implementing the PYP curriculum.
Ms. Dawson is passionate about mathematics, technology, philosophy for children, and visual literacy. She sees students as sense-makers, and delights in conversations that help us make sense of the world together. She is active in the Brockton Community coaching soccer and track and field.
|Grade 5||Dana MacRae
Dana, who hails from Sydney, Nova Scotia, has been an educator for the past 23 years. Her extensive teaching experiences range from grades 3 to 8 in both the independent and the public school systems, as well as roles of Acting Vice-Principal, Middle Years Coordinator, and other positions of leadership. Dana’s objective is to teach and learn in a growth-oriented environment as a qualified educator who can inspire students to reach their true potential. Dana possesses an international mindset with a global approach to education and a genuine appreciation of inquiry-based learning. She is a team-player and is attentive to the unique needs of her students and their parents. Dana has consistently been an active member of her school communities, leading a variety of sport, art, and other activity-related programs. We are very excited to have Dana joining our Brockton team.
|Grade 6||Adam Scott
Adam Scott is an international educator with experience volunteering and teaching in Canada, America, India, Cambodia and Thailand. Adam is originally from Ontario, where he received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. He is currently working part time on a Masters in Education (which focuses on the PYP) from the University of Bath in the UK. Adam is known to his students as a caring teacher who is especially passionate about teaching elementary mathematics.
|Art|| Jill Hird
Mrs. Hird has worked at various independent schools around Vancouver, and is very happy to be back in beautiful North Vancouver, as Brockton's new Jr.School Visual Art specialist. She graduated from UBC with a Fine Arts and Family Studies degree and went on to complete her B.Ed in the Fine Arts and Media cohort. Not only does Jill take pleasure in sharing her knowledge about art history and visual art processes, but she enjoys fostering the natural curiosity and creativity in her students and then watching them succeed. Jill enjoys many things, including spending lots of time with her two sons, dancing, hiking, and of course creating art whenever she can!
Mrs. Lu-Grahn is a graduate of UBC where she attained a Bachelor of Music in piano performance. She furthered her studies later with a Bachelor of Education with a concentration in fine arts integration (media art, drama and dance) and Orff methodology. Prior to her university studies, Abbie received her ARCT Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. Her music journey has taken her to Bratislava, Salzburg and Vienna. Abbie strongly believes in the guiding principles of Orff Schulwerk and is eager to share her passion and enthusiasm with children of all ages.
|Physical Education||Samantha Lyzun
Samantha Lyzun, a Northshore local and former Varsity athlete, obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia, which she followed up proudly with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Samantha is active, passionate, and committed to the success and well-being of her students and athletes. She is a dedicated coach for West Vancouver Field Hockey Club and a number of school and high performance programs. Her passion for sport and education has given her the opportunity to be part of many adventures as an athlete, coach, and teacher. Samantha is looking forward to a great upcoming year as a committed and enthusiastic member of the Brockton School Community!
Mr. Mailfert is originally from Lorraine in France and has been teaching his mother tongue for the past 10 years. He holds a Master in Teaching FSL from the University of Nancy 2, France. He had the opportunity to teach French to children and adults in the USA and Spain before coming to Canada. He is very enthusiastic about the IB PYP program and teaches French through creative games and songs. He is also fluent in Spanish and has a passion for traveling and world languages.
