Student Vote - October 18th

On Thursday, October 4, the Individuals & Societies 10 class presented to classmates the candidates and the main issues for the upcoming Municipal Election in the District of North Vancouver.  This class is organizing a Student Vote for Grades 5-12 on Thursday, October 18 with the help of the CIVIX student elections organization. During this election cycle there will be several items to vote on: mayor, city councillors, school board, changes in the provincial electoral system (referendum option on First-Past-the-Post system or Proportional Representation), and two Assent Voting initiatives (possible amalgamation of the City and District of North Vancouver, and budget approval to build affordable, non-market housing). Here is the link to their presentation. Please be sure to speak with your children about the issues facing your municipality, and go out and vote!
PS: Ms. McCulla joined the class to speak briefly to Brockton's work efforts to engage local leaders such that the school's vision and aspirations (particularly as a school that serves the community so well) are paramount. She spoke to various issues that present both challenges and opportunities for Brockton.
