Brockton School Personal Counsellors are essential members of the Student Services team. The Student Services Team helps educate our entire school community on the importance of mental wellbeing, and they are available to support one-to-one, small group, and whole class lessons from JK-12.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Work in partnership with the Principals of the Senior and Junior School, Student Services Director, and Student Services team to help support the overall well-being of our students, families, and faculty
- Support mental health, wellbeing and the psychological, social and academic development of students JK-12
Student Programming
- Individual and personalized 1:1 personal counselling support
- Development of counselling treatment goals, strategies, and plan
Communications
- Communicate with families as needed, while maintaining professional boundaries including confidentiality
Supporting roles
- Member of Brockton Student Services Team
- Contribute to IEPs as relevant
- Risk assessment and Crisis management
- Supporting the Safer Schools Coordinator as needed
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
- Essential: Masters in Counselling Psychology
- B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteria
- Ideally a minimum of 3 years of experience in child and youth counselling
- Knowledge of IB curriculum and demands an asset
- Experience in an independent school, an asset
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible, and reflective
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Energy and readiness to participate in the diverse life of the School community
- A commitment to continued professional development and growth
- Superior time management, communication and organization skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to easily establish rapport with students, parents, faculty and community members
- High level of professionalism and consideration of the wellbeing of pupils
- Ability to research and find information for families
- Flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to adapt to changing demands and school growth
- Knowledge and assurance of confidentiality where it applies
