Svetlana Catia
Ms. Svetlana Catia was born in Slovakia where she completed her Masters in Education with a focus on teaching Mathematics and Physics from Charles University in Prague. With this background, Svetlana was recruited and found herself working in Los Angeles engaging in research/publications/presentations with The National Association for Research on Science Teaching and the American Educational Research Association. Svetlana then ventured to Vancouver and was welcomed to Canadian classrooms. Among other postings, Svetlana most recently served as the senior physics teacher at Crofton House School. Indeed, Svetlana comes to Brockton School with many years of experience including teaching of a variety of subjects: Advanced Placement Physics, Physics 11/12, Sciences, and Mathematics. In 2012, Svetlana also completed her Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Svetlana is an authentic individual who values the learning about her students, their families, and their dreams/aspirations. Svetlana encourages her students to love and value their studies, to be curious about the world around them, and to actively search for answers to all questions that arise. She has a passion for, and a commitment to, education, as she believes it plays an essential role in the lives of every individual and in every society worldwide. Svetlana was a former president of the BC Association of Physics Teachers, where she was committed to promoting excellence in the teaching of physics across BC. As a mother to her young daughter, Svetlana spends most of her free time exploring outdoor parks, swimming, playing tennis, or skiing. She loves to travel, explore different cultures, and spend quality time with friends and family.
